Katha (story behind artefact): The peacock reigns as an emblem of beauty and harmony in the frame, every line and intricate detail celebrating the deep connection between Gond culture and nature. The peacock’s resplendent plumage mirrors the brilliant colors of Gond art, while its graceful form evokes the delicate balance between humans and the environment. As a symbol of renewal and grace, it exemplifies the Gond belief in the interconnectedness of all living beings. Framed by the Dokra figurines below, the peacock embodies the enduring spirit of nature’s magnificence, inviting us to embrace its beauty and remember our place in the intricate tapestry of life.
Riti (method): The confluence of the Gond and the Dokra styles is perfectly showcased in this artefact. The Gond style is created through glass-painting, created inhouse by our artisans utilising their incredible eyes for detail. The Dokra style is cast through wax into moulds in a centuries-old process known as Bharai Kaam. Thus, these two styles succeed in invoking a sense of collectiveness and relationship in their simultaneity.
