Mandalika :: The Saura Painting

3,300.00

The Saura style originates from the Saura tribe in Odisha, and is characterised by the abundance of triangular and other geometric figures, vibrant colour schemes, and the humans? androgynous design (unlike Warli, where male and female is marked distinctly). It holds mention in both the Ramayanaand the Mahabharata.
Dokra, locally known as ?Bharaikaam?, is the art of sculpting brass with the ancient technique of wax casting. The metal is cast into crafted moulds, which the tribals create themselves, in their furnaces and with their specialized tools. Practiced in West Bengal, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh, this metal craft finds different forms of expressions, each art form uniquely different in style and manifestation from the others.
