Katha (story behind artefact): Peacocks hold a lot of meaning in Indian cultures, and so this depiction painted in the Madhubani style is truly spectacular in both its colours and its symbolism. The peacock feather in particular is ever-present in Krishna’s crown, and further brings protection to any environment it is placed in. It is believed to preserve the energy of the space, a guarding talisman against negative energy. Juxtaposed by the Dokra frames beneath, this piece reflects the ecosystem the peacock is an undeniable part of. Let the feathers of this stunning peacock bring you a similar positivity, and remind you of your part in a larger system!
Riti (method): The confluence of the Madhubani and the Dokra styles is perfectly showcased in this artefact. The Madhubani style is created through glass-painting, created inhouse by our artisans utilising their incredible eyes for detail. The Dokra style is cast through wax into moulds in a centuries-old process known as Bharai Kaam. Thus, these two styles succeed in invoking a sense of collectiveness and relationship in their simultaneity.
