Katha (story behind artefact): The ‘Madhuban’ in Madhubani comes from sweet-forest, a place where Sita and Rama frolicked and fell in love. This love is the standard we aspire to meet, the eternal commitment presented to us as an ideal. The bird depicted in the lamp’s panes is a symbol of this Madhuban, an emblem of freedom from this auspicious space. Illuminated by the light within, it is a reminder of better things to come. Brighten your day with this colour and this exquisite craftsmanship, and let it serve as a reminder to steadfastly commit to your ideals.
Riti (method): The Madhubani art form began with women painting the walls of their homes, infusing positive energy and a sense of community into their personal spaces. Now, Madhubani motifs can be found on a range of artefacts, bringing the same energy into more contemporary forms. The lamp’s panes are stained-glass, which is an art form that IndiHands has perfected in-house, with our artisans having 15+ years of experience. The vibrant semi-transparent colours are beautifully lined by solid lining, creating a beautiful confluence of the liner’s ebb and the colour’s flow.
