The peacock is India’s national bird, but more than that, it symbolises beauty and grace. It is a recurring motif used in the varied styles which India contains, from the Madhubani depiction to the Miniature detailing, from the exquisite hand carving of stone to the Dhokra tree of life. This particular depiction is done in wood carving, with jail work detailed onto both the mother and the child. The pair depicts the endurance of family.
